Although scientists are still struggling with how each bird order relates to each other, birds have taught us, and continue to teach us, a lot about evolution!The Spiral of Life is an innovative image that showcases the cutting edge of evolution science in an accessible and exciting way, while emphasizing the common origin and equality of all living things. The Spiral became a series of murals in several Pittsburgh cultural institutions, each piece focusing on a different aspect of the field.
The Spiral of Life project was part of the Darwin2009: a Pittsburgh Partnership initiative. This project was funded by a Science Education Partnership Award, granted by the National Center for Resource Research, a component of the National Institutes of Health.

Weird Crow is back!
I first heard it in the neighborhood last spring - there’s a crow somewhere around here who sounds kinda hoarse and … not like a crow, really. It makes the right sequences of calls, but it sounds HONESTLY MORE LIKE WATERFOWL. My dad, upon first hearing it, asked me when geese became arboreal.
Anyhow, today I was painting the back steps and I heard its telltale weird CAW-HONK behind me. It’s all strutting around the neighbor’s yard with three other crows. Granted I don’t know as much as I’d like to about corvid behavior, but it kept sure as hell looked like it was running the show, all getting in the other three’s faces and caw-honking at them and flaring its wings like LOOK AT ME I AM LARGE.
…So. If I interpreted those events correctly - good on you, Weird Crow! Glad to have you back.

AW YEAH SUPER MARIO GALAXY SOUNDTRACK. Gusty Garden Galaxy is gorgeous. But I also really like “The Library” and “The Story Begins”. Plus the reprise of “The Story Begins” in SMG2 - beautiful!
I am going to freaking ELOPE with the Gusty Garden Galaxy BGM. But yeah there are so many utterly magical tracks on there. *_* I have no reason to believe SMG2 is any different, though I don’t own it myself.
…Come to think of it, if I do meet that lady at Starbucks today as planned, the Gamestop is right next door. HMMM.
(also randomly here is a rock remix of said Gusty Garden Galaxy which has also secured my eternal enamorment. It inspires a different sort of good feels from the original, but like the original, it is perfect.)
